Time Cut is a 2024 science
fiction and thriller teenage movie directed by Hannah Macpherson and co-written
with Michael Kennedy. Some of the cast members include Madison Bailey, Antonia
Gentry, Griffin Gluck and Michael Shanks. The story is about a teenager Lucy
who lives in 2024 but accidently goes back in time to 2003 when four teenagers,
including her sister (Summer) were murdered by the Sweetly Slasher, a serial
killer who never got caught.
The movie kicks off with a scene
from April 2003 where Summer attends a Spring Fling party shortly after three
of her friends Biran, Val and Emmy were murdered mysteriously. Whilst at the
party, the killer shows up and Summer is his next victim. Then the story
switches to the present day in April 2024.
In 2024, Lucy lives in the shadow
of the loss of her sister, her parents and the town folk still mourn the tragic
events of over 20 years ago and it feels like she does not really belong. When
Lucy accidentally time travels, she meets her sister and the other teenagers. She
gets help from Quinn, a Physics enthusiast, together they try to figure out the
time machine that brought Lucy and find a way to get her back home. However,
Lucy feels compelled to prevent the terrible incidents from occurring despite
Quinn’s warnings not to tamper with time. Will she leave things as they are or
will she step in?
I enjoyed how the movie
transported me back in time bringing a little nostalgia, the popular songs of
the Y2K, the outfits and the older versions of technology were a nice touch. The movie explored themes on sisterhood,
friendship, loss and teamwork.
There were some goofs in the
movie though. It seemed to debunk popular time travel theories. Also, for the
sensitive case of multiple murders, I would have thought Lucy’s plans to stop
the murders would have had more tactic in the approach, especially because it
only led to a more disastrous outcome. So, I do not know why they tried to
tackle the problem alone, but I guess that adds to the anticipation. The major
plot twist at the end was a real shocker. I will recommend watching it if you
like teenage thrillers.
